Questions, answered

How much GST do I pay on a new home in Alberta?
GST is 5% of the home price. Alberta has no provincial sales tax. (As of October 27, 2026. Source: Canada Revenue Agency, canada.ca.)

Can I get the first-time buyer GST rebate?
It depends on your situation and the home — the eligibility list above is the CRA's. Confirm with your builder how the rebate is credited.

Why doesn't the calculator fill in levies and landscaping for me?
Because they vary by builder and community, and a guess could mislead you. Enter your builder's number, or ask them.

What does "Not sure" do?
It leaves the line out of the total, lists it as unknown, and gives you a question to ask your builder.

Is this tax advice?
No. It is an estimate for planning. Ask your accountant or the Canada Revenue Agency about your own situation.
